Mark Ranson Jacobs

Mark “Jake” Ranson Jacobs, age 63, passed away at the Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He was born on January 4, 1959, in Dover, DE, the son of Samuel C.R. Jacobs and the late Kay Atchison (Jarman) Jacobs. Mark was employed as a Housing and Community Development Supervisor for Kent County, DE, retiring after 30 years in 2018. Additionally, he also worked as a Mason for his father’s masonry company, Sam Jacobs & Sons, was a member of the Smyrna Clayton Jaycees and attended the Cheswold United Methodist Church. A graduate of Smyrna High School, he enjoyed all sports. He played baseball, football, and basketball, and was selected as best all-around male athlete in 1977. After graduating, Mark enjoyed playing softball for many years then became an avid golfer. He loved golfing with his father and friends. Another passion for him involved the ownership and training of Standardbred racehorses. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held most dear. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Jacobs. He is survived by his father, Samuel Clinton Ransome Jacobs, and his stepmother, Alice Mae Jacobs of Dover, DE; his brother, Michael S. Jacobs (Mary Ann) of Dover, DE; his nephew, Nicholas M. Jacobs (Anastasia) of Clayton, DE; and his cousin Gena Smith of Florida. Final care for Mr. Jacobs has been entrusted to Watson-Yates Funeral Home, 609 East King Street, Seaford, DE. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Cheswold United Methodist Church, 97 Main St., Cheswold, DE 19936, where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 AM.
