Anna M. Cunningham's Obituary
Anna M. Cunningham (ne Newnam), age 97 of Seaford, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at her residence, in Seaford, DE. She was born on June 8, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Joseph C. and Anna M. (O'Donnell) Newnam.
Music was always a major part of her life. At five foot, Nan carried her acoustic bass on the Broad Street Subway to practice at John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. Later, she "graduated" to keyboard instruments, mainly piano, although she also performed on the organ at church, when asked. She continued to enjoy playing throughout her life.
As a young woman, she helped win World War II as a defense worker at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. In later years, she operated a telephone switchboard, among other occupations.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cunningham was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Moran; her brothers: Joseph, John, and Charles; and her sisters: Margaret, Catherine, and Regina. She is survived by her son, William (Kathy); her grandchildren: Bridget, Caitlin, Jeffrey, Rebecca, and Jessie; her great-grandchildren: Parker, Jeffrey, and Callie; her brother, Francis (Neda); and her 22 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 10:00 AM, at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 611 Knowles Avenue, Southampton, PA. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
