Anna Virginia Shaffer's Obituary
Virginia Shaffer, 94 of Seaford, DE, went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2019. She was born on March 24, 1925 in Petersburg, Virginia, daughter of the late Thomas P. and Inez Wright Moore.
Virginia's father worked for Dupont in Hopewell, Virginia, and when the Seaford plant started construction in 1939, her father was part of the construction crew. In April of 1940, he moved the family to Seaford.
Virginia worked for Sears & Roebuck in Seaford for several years during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s when it was located on High Street. She attended First Baptist Church in Seaford.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2005; her brother Thomas Moore Jr.; and her sisters: Mildred Roberts and Juanita Wright. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her son, Charles Jr. (Linda) of Laurel; her daughters: Brenda Davis (Jim) of East New Market, MD and Carol Burtelle (Gerald Harman) of Seaford; her grandchildren: Kim Dennis (Bill) of Greenwood, DE, Matthew Shaffer of Seaford, Jeremy Shaffer (Rebekah) of Huntington, WV, David Burtelle (Mariel) of Seaford, Mike Burtelle (Frankie) of Chester, South Carolina, G.C. Spear (Karen) of Hurlock, Alexis Janusiewicz (Jim) of Milton, and Jimmy Davis of East New Market. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, a member of the Parsell Funeral Family, 609 East King Street, Seaford, DE, where friends may call beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow the services at Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Seaford.
