Don Merrill Love's Obituary
Don Merrill Love, age 79, of Seaford, DE, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Delaware Hospice Center after a recent diagnosis of terminal lung cancer. He was born in Marion, Indiana on September 22, 1938, son of the late Merrill and Ruth (Oldfather) Love.
Don grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Mound High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He served in the Navy for seven years before becoming a police officer in Burnsville, MN. While serving on the police force, he graduated from Mankato State College with a B.S. in Computer Science, which launched a career change into the field of computer and information technology. After obtaining his degree, Don worked for several state agencies and technology companies, allowing him to spend time living in Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., Idaho, Texas, Illinois and Maryland. He retired in 2009 to Seaford, DE where he served as the President of the Ridgewood Crossing HOA Board. Don was known for his love of animals and his dedication to his neighborhood.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife of 19 years, Dorene Pexa Love. He is survived by his second wife of 36 years, Gail Kaufman Love of Seaford, DE; his four children: Elizabeth "Lisa" Tisdel (John) of New Prague, MN, John Love (Marcia) of New Prague, MN, Jillian "Jill" Jurkovic (Dobrisa) of Austin, TX and Eric Love of Gaithersburg, MD; his six grandchildren: Paul Tisdel (Kelly), Phillip Tisdel (Julie), Stephanie Bisek (Andrew), Jacob Love, Brandon Love and Anka Jurkovic; nine great-grandchildren; his sister Jean Boxell (Gilly) and his nephew Allen Boxell.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s name to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
