Henry Alfred Hastings' Obituary
Henry "Peanut" Alfred Hastings, age 93 of Seaford, DE, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 at his home. He was born in Seaford, DE, on July 12, 1925, son of the late Grover and Minnie Hastings.
Mr. Hastings was a proud US Army Veteran, having honorably served during World War II with the 86th Blackhawk Division in the European Theater and the Pacific Theater for 13 months. Following his service to country, he built a lifelong career as a millwright in the tristate area for the Carpenters and Millwrights Union, Local 2012. Mr. Hastings was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 6 in Seaford, as well as an active member of AMSA Club in Assateague and the First State Antique Tractor Club. His interests were many and varied, and included surf fishing and working on cars and tractors. A talented musician, Mr. Hastings played several instruments and loved attending blue grass and country music festivals. He was also an enthusiastic history buff and never tired of furthering his knowledge on the subject. Above all, Mr. Hastings was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hastings was preceded in death by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty L. Hastings of Seaford, DE; his children: Alvin Hastings (Lora) of Seaford, DE, Merle Hastings (Nancy Wyatt) of Seaford, DE, and Cheryl Martin (Jeffrey) of Middletown, DE; his grandchildren: Irene Safaro, Alvin Hastings, Jr. (Amy Madden), Nicole Somers (Troy), Ashley Day (Nicholas), Courtney Martin, Tanner Martin, and his great-grandchildren: Brandon Walton, Ryan Walton, Jacob Somers, Ariel Somers, Tavian Somers, Alicia Madden, Samantha Madden, Alexis Joshua, Meah Robertson and the newest addition to the family, Atlas Day.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, 609 East King Street, Seaford, DE, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the services at Blades Cemetery, 10th and Market Streets, Blades, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713, or Concord United Methodist Church, 25332 Church Road, Seaford, DE 19973.
