Jean C. MacCoy's Obituary
Jean MacCoy, 85, of Seaford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Jean was born in Milford, DE in 1933, to the late Alton Collins and Anne Pritchard.
At the young age of 16, she married the love of her life, Alexis “Mac” MacCoy, Jr., and they enjoyed 53 years of wonderful marriage before his passing in 2003. Though they began their life in Milford, Jean moved with Mac to Seaford in 1963, where they settled and continued raising their four children. While Mac worked at DuPont, Jean worked around the clock as a caregiver to numerous children who were welcomed into her home, morning, noon, and night. She took great pride in caring for so many families over the years.
Her greatest pride, however, was her family. If you ever asked Jean what she loved most in this world, she would say spending time with her family. From holidays and birthday celebrations, to family trips to her favorite Myrtle Beach, she never missed an opportunity to gather everyone together under one roof. All those who knew her and loved her, knew that she was affectionately known as “Mom-Mom,” which will always be her greatest legacy. On summer days, you’d always find her surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at her pool, which is undoubtedly one of the family’s greatest memories of time well spent with her.
With utmost adoration, Jean will always be remembered for her love, kindness, compassion, generosity, selflessness, and amazing strength and determination. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael MacCoy and his wife Holly; daughter, Judith Evans; son, Brian MacCoy; grandchildren, Katie Purse and her husband Curt; Matt MacCoy and his wife Sarah; Ashley Frey; Marcy Pentoney and her husband Ben; Nicholas Evans and his fiancé Kaitlyn Emmett; and 9 great-grandchildren who loved and adored her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alexis “Mac” MacCoy, Jr., and her son, Alexis Stephen MacCoy.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15 at 11:00 am at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 315 High Street, Seaford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Sussex County Branch Office, 108 N. Bedford Street, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.
