John William Crosby's Obituary
FLORIST NOTE: PLEASE DELIVER ALL ARRANGEMENTS BY 10 AM Monday, JULY 22, 2019 TO WATSON-YATES FUNERAL HOME, SEAFORD.
John William Crosby, age 93 of Seaford, DE, died peacefully at home in his sleep on Thursday, July 11, 2019. He was born on May 19, 1926 in Oxford, MD, son of the late John and Mary (Snider) Crosby.
John grew up right on The Strand, overlooking the Bellevue Ferry. As a child he delivered milk and papers, helped his father in the Oxford Ice House, and even on occasion piloted the Oxford Bellevue Ferry. In 1944 he enlisted in the United State Navy and served as a gunner on the Fitzhugh Lee Cargo Liberty Ship. While serving in the Navy, he began roller skating which he enjoyed as a hobby, performing in a skate dance troop, and was a floor guard at the Seaford-Laurel skating rink for many years. John was a past member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department and was the first man to climb the old ladder truck. He worked for years at the City of Seaford on the electric line crew and worked at both the Laurel and Seaford School Districts as a chief custodian. On July 11, 1957, John wed Louise Musser, whom he was married to for 61 years until she passed away in November of 2018. In 1963 they had a daughter, Tawn, of whom John was very proud and supported her art career from early childhood through today. He was a devout Christian and very active in the Laurel and Seaford Church of Christ, which he literally helped build from the ground up. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his daughter, Tawn Crosby Shivers and her husband Daniel of Seaford, DE; and his beloved cat Squeeky.
A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, 609 East King Street, Seaford, DE, where friends may call beginning at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in John's memory to the Seaford Church of Christ, 20989 Sussex Highway, Seaford, DE 19973.
