He was born on May 28, 1948, in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, to Arthur C. Geller and Blanche P. (Hoffman) Geller. John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive as a member of the Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP). He was awarded numerous military honors, including the Silver Star Medal for valor, the Bronze Star Medal for valor, and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. One of the few references John ever made about his time in Vietnam was a story he shared about a mission where his unit, cut off from immediate support, was aided by the battleship USS New Jersey—a moment of pride for a Jersey native supported by a ship bearing his home state's name. Prior to his deployment overseas, he received the Army’s Soldier’s Medal for heroism under noncombat conditions.
Before settling in the Millville area . John owned and operated JC’s Home Improvement Company in Trenton. While living in Cedarville, Lawrence Township, he worked at Silverton Marine Boat Corporation.
John was predeceased by his father, Arthur C. Geller; his mother, Blanche P. Geller; and his sisters, Maureen J. Geller and Eileen P. Lake. He is survived by his sister Blanche Spruill of New Jersey, his sister Shiela Cook of South Carolina, his brother Arthur C. Geller Jr. of Delaware, and his brother Garry Geller (Barbara) of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
