Larry Wayne Woolbert Sr.'s Obituary
Larry Woolbert Sr., of Seaford, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 6, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was 85 years old.
Larry was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey, on September 26, 1940, to the late Wayne Karl and Anna Marian (Warfle) Woolbert. He joined the U.S. Army in 1960 and served with the 93rd Signal Battalion. During his three years of service, he was awarded the Army Sharpshooter Badge (M-14 Rifle) for outstanding marksmanship and was stationed at several military bases in the United States and overseas, including Fort Huachuca in Arizona, as well as in France and Germany.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Larry returned from overseas and married Eileen (McDonald) Woolbert in September 1963 at Sacred Heart Church in Vineland, New Jersey. As their family grew, Larry and Eileen traveled the country with their young children before leaving New Jersey and settling in Walpole, New Hampshire. More than 35 years later, they relocated to Seaford, Delaware.
Larry had many talents and a special gift for creating beautiful things, as seen in the dozens of homes he designed, built, and remodeled over the years for both clients and his family. He also had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and preferred self-employment, launching a variety of ventures that included a small retail store, a post-and-beam home construction and assembly company, a screen-printing business, an independent local newspaper, and an online model train store.
One of Larry’s last major projects was volunteering his time and expertise every day for two years to help plan, design, and oversee the construction of a new office building on the grounds of his local Catholic church. It was a meaningful effort that allowed him to use his skills in service to his community, working closely with the parish priest, architects, contractors, and other tradespeople.
In his spare time, Larry found joy in building wooden furniture, playing guitar, and painting portraits. His handmade pieces and artistic work reflected both his skill and his love of creating something unique for others to enjoy.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Eileen (McDonald) Woolbert, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, family, and adventure. He is survived by his children, Sheri and her husband, Tony Ruiz; Kevin and his wife, Theresa; Terry and his wife, Heather; Shelley and her husband, Erik Wasklewicz; Larry II; and several grandchildren.
The family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate Larry’s life and honor his memory.
