Louise M. Crosby's Obituary
Louise M. Crosby, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 21, 2018. She has been a patient of Season's Hospice, who the family deeply thank for their caring, empathetic way they had with Louise while in their care. Louise was born in Reading, PA on April 14, 1928, daughter of the late H. Damon and Elsie W. Musser.
Before graduating from Seaford High School in 1947, she was Captain of the Seaford Blue Jays Cheerleading squad and was known for her dream of becoming a dress designer. Upon graduation she moved to New York City and attended McDowell School of Dress Design. After a good try at dress designing she left her dream in New York and returned to Seaford and began her career as a bank teller at Sussex Trust, Bank of Delaware, and PNC Bank. She was loved by her customers for her great smile and cheerful sense of humor. She retired from PNC in 1996 and shortly thereafter opened her gift shop, Cranberry Hill which she ran along with her daughter. With her husband by her side every day in the gift shop, Louise loved every minute helping customers find that unique something and meeting new people. Sadly, the family closed Cranberry Hill in 2008.
Over the past 40 years, Louise was very active in the local arts community: the Woodbridge Art League and Seaford Artists. Her favorite thing to paint as an artist was the WWII towers in Lewes. She was a huge inspiration artistically to her daughter in also becoming an artist and art educator.
A little known fact about Louise is that she was an accomplished poet, having had several of her poems published and one was included in the Poetic Voices of America publication. Louise enjoyed many things, such as: her favorite treat, ice cream, the beach, collecting recipes, hand-blown vinegar cruets and flo blue. She loved to "nip" the weeds in the garden and spoil her beloved cat, Squeeky.
Preceded in death by her parents, Louise leaves her husband of 61 years, Navy WWII veteran, John W. Crosby of Seaford, DE; her daughter, Tawn Crosby Shivers and her husband Daniel of Seaford, DE.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:30 AM at the Watson-Yates Funeral Home & Crematorium, a Parsell Family Funeral Home, 609 E King Street, Seaford, DE 19973, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
Louise was a long-time member of the Seaford Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise's memory may be made to the Seaford Church of Christ, 20989 Sussex Highway, Seaford, DE 19973.
