Phyllis T. Simmons' Obituary
Phyllis Theresa Simmons, age 96 passed away at Manor House in Seaford, DE on Sunday, March 31, 2024. She was born on October 3, 1927, in Camden, NJ, daughter of the late Michele and Rose (Marrandino) DiLeo.
After graduating high school, Phyllis met her future husband (Robert Simmons) at a UFO dance in NJ. They were married in 1950 and had their first daughter, Kathleen, in 1951, living in Camden, NJ. In 1954, they moved to the newly built planned community of Levittown, PA.. In the following years, two more daughters were born, Janet, then Donna. Phyllis lovingly referred to them as "her girls"."
She earned her cosmetology license and worked as a hair stylist for many years and many years as an office worker for GTE after that.
Her hobbies were always active and constructive. Phyllis was an avid reader and could always find her stretched comfortably on the sofa quietly reading her latest book whenever time allowed. During her golden years, she enjoyed bridge clubs, church choir, family get togethers, coffee with neighbors, puzzles, and being "mom" to two West Highland White Terriers, Peppy and Mae. What she treasured more than anything, however, was time spent with her family. Phyllis was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by the many people whose lives she touched with her kindness.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis is predeceased by her spouse of 62 years, Robert C. Simmons of Harbeson, DE. She is survived by her three daughters: Kathleen (Tom) Plummer, of Maryland; Janet (Jan Edler) Simmons, of New Jersey; and Donna (David) Skekel, of Maryland; her five grandchildren: Cory, Riley, and Cally Simmons-Edler, Matthew and Emma (Derek) Skekel; and her three great-grandchildren: Reagan, Robert, and Reese Simmons.
