Richard Joseph Gavlick's Obituary
Richard J. Gavlick, age 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 6, 2018 at St Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. Born in Swoyersville, Pa, he was the son of Valentine and Mary Gavlick. Richard served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Payne Printery and the Citizen's Voice in Wilkesbarre, PA until his retirement.
Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 644 in Swoyersville for many years and served as their accountant. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 6 in Seaford, the Catholic War Veterans, and the Lions Club in Swoyersville. Richard was an avid fisherman and boater, as well as a golf enthusiast. He was also a dinner caterer for many large events in the PA area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Golias. He is is survived by his former wife, Jo Anne Gavlick; and his siblings, Valentine Gavlick, Jr, and wife Liz Gavlick, Mary Ann Torkelson, Lorraine Cannon, Joseph Gavlick and Arlene Adamchak and husband Rudy Adamchak. Also surviving are his much loved 5 step-children and 4 step-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Swoyersville, PA, followed by the funeral at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Swoyersville.
The family is requesting that flowers be omitted.
