Richard Thomas Spaun's Obituary
Richard "Dick" Spaun, age 75 of Seaford, DE, formerly of Verplanck, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Yonkers, NY, on Monday, September 21, 1942, son of the late Frank and Vera (Lucas) Spaun.
Mr. Spaun was a graduate of Yonkers High School in Yonkers, NY. He served proudly in the US Air Force in Vietnam, Grenada and during the Desert Storm and Desert Shield conflicts. His commitment to service of country continued after his time with the Air Force, and he retired as Senior Master Sergeant from the New York Air National Guard. He was a Life Member and tour guide with the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover, as well as a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. Mr. Spaun married the love of his life, Marie, on June 12, 1965 and thereafter, began their family. He made a career as an engineer of technology, working for both IBM and Hewlett Packard. Mr. Spaun enjoyed model trains, photography, camping, and travel. Above all, he cherished time spent with his wonderful family. Mr. Spaun was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be genuinely missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Spaun was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Debbie Spaun. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie Spaun of Seaford, DE; his son, Gregory Spaun of Poughkeepsie, NY; his daughter, Nicole Spaun of Lawton, VA; his grandsons: Stephen Spaun and Scott Spaun; his sister, Valerie Bresciani; and his several nieces and nephews.
A Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, a Parsell Family Funeral Home, 609 East King Street; Seaford, DE. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date.
