Roberta "Bertie" Yvonne Hensley's Obituary
Roberta “Bertie” Yvonne Hensley, age 82 of Seaford, DE, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital, in Seaford. She was born on September 16, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Robert E. Short, Sr. and Edna R. Short Kennedy.
Bertie had many interests and hobbies. She was a voracious reader and an avid antiquer, attending as many auctions and yard sales as possible. Bertie was an enthusiastic traveler and relished in road trips on her Harley. She was a skilled cook, as evidenced by anyone fortunate enough to share a seat at her table and an avid gardener, as well. Bertie had a zest for life, enjoying life to its fullest and cherishing all things, great and small. The matriarch of her family, her children and home were of the highest priority, as were her beloved animals, her dog, Duke and cat, Tom. Bertie was a loving and devoted companion, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Loved by many, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Bertie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hensley; her brother, Lynn Short; and her sisters: Rebecca Weaver and Norma Lee Boyer. She is survived by her companion of 26 years, Karl DiSalvo of Seaford, DE; her sons: Matthew DiSalvo of Seaford, DE and Nicholas DiSalvo (Brittany) of Seaford, DE; her daughters: Angela H. Bransby (John) of Laurel, DE and Christi DeFord of TN; her 4 grandchildren; her 5 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Robert E. Short, Jr. (Rosie) of TX.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, a Parsell Family Funeral Home, 609 East King Street, Seaford, DE, where friends may call beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
