William "Ace" J. Himes' Obituary
William J. “Ace” Himes, Jr passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 25, 2023. He was born on June 12, 1932, son of the late William and Grace (Lofland) Himes. He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth A. Himes and his sister, Isabelle Himes.
Bill graduated from Seaford High School in 1950. He was drafted into the Yankees minor league and was headed for spring training when a serious car accident ended his very bright career. Bill worked for Causeway Motors, however, in April 1952 he started working at the Dupont plant where he retired in April 1985. After retirement Bill and his beloved wife Libby enjoyed some traveling, but mostly he relished watching old cowboy movies and the Yankees on tv.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Laurel, Delaware. Bill was a terrific husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a great friend to all.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Bobby Ann Fox (Dave) and Bonnie Griffith (Mike) of Seaford. His grandsons Tony Jewell (Melissa), Ty Mills, Matt Mills (Deena), Alex Jewell, Justin Jewell (Alex) all of Seaford. His great grandchildren Trey Jewell (Kaitlyn) of Seaford, Anthony Jefferson and Michael Jewell of Bridgeville, Alaina Mills, Jalynn Jewell, Alivia Mills, Addison Mills, Alyse Mills and Jaxon Jewell all of Seaford. And a great-great grandson, Tucker Jewell of Seaford; and his nephew Jack Barry (Elinor) of Seaford.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to his care givers: Gail Johnson, Barry Green, Brinda Bailey, all the ladies from Jan’s Caring Hands and to Vitas Hospice.
A grave side service will be held at Odd Fellows cemetery in Seaford, DE on Friday, September 1st at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Vitas Hospice, 30265 Commerce Dr., Unite 202 Millsboro, DE 19966.
