William John Zawicki's Obituary
William (Bill) John Zawicki passed away at ACTS Manor House in Seaford, DE on October 12, 2023. He was born in Dunkirk, NY on May 13, 1936, son of the late William and Mary (Lajewski) Zawicki.
Bill attended Forestville High School (Forestville, NY) and is a graduate of Cornell University (Ithaca, NY). A member of the class of 1957, he studied pomology and entomology, was a brother in the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was enrolled in ROTC. He continued to serve in the Army National Guard until 1965. After a long career at the Chevron Corporation, Bill founded Northeast Vector Management. He grew his business supplying the mosquito control community in the Northeast until his retirement in 1999. He is a past president of the American Mosquito Control Association and received the R.E. Dorer Award from the Virginia Mosquito Control Association.
Bill was an avid home gardener and a Monmouth County Master Gardener. He was an accomplished amateur painter and photographer, and devoted husband who shared a love of travel and friends with his cherished wife of 61 years, Nancy (O’Brien) Zawicki. Bill was a communicant of St. Ann Parish (Bethany Beach, DE) and St. Robert Bellarmine (Freehold, NJ).
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; his brother Paul Zawicki (Sun City West, AZ), and sister Madeline Fabich (Sterling, VA). He is survived by his daughters: Mary Ellen (Tony) Gonski of Selbyville, DE, Kathleen Zawicki (Tom Hoch) of Boxborough, MA, Martha (Mark) O’Neill of Belmar, NJ, and Patricia (Steven) Dobbin of Mt. Airy, MD; and brother Tom Zawicki (Chandler, AZ). He will also be missed by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Both Bill and his wife will be interred at St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church in Dunkirk, NY after a Mass of Christian Burial. Date to be determined in spring of 2024.
