“My First Best Friend”
Here I am with "My First Best Friend", I was not quite yet two.
He played, he teased, and protected me, as all Big Brother's do.
He would hold my hand to cross the street, off to Sunday school we'd go.
We played cops and robbers and army men, he played dollies with me to.
He liked to ride his tricycle, and take me for a ride. I'd wrap my arms around his waist, then yell to me, "HANG ON TIGHT"!
He taught me how to roller skate, to swim and bat a ball. To climb a fence, and tie my shoes, and help me when I'd fall.
Sometimes we would climb to the roof, on back of the garage.....
And lay up there for hours, just look'n at the stars. Then some nights we caught lightening bugs, with old poked hole lidded jars.
One Christmas he got a drum set, and I just got a flute, but we still hung together make'n music... what a hoot! Mama said, "go in the bathroom, the accoustics are the best. In there you'll learn to harmonize, it's like a hearing test". Once we got it figured out, our favorite "Let It Be", Hit my notes high, he'd go his low, then things got turned around.
First came the band, and then the Girls... no longer did he see,
For he had other interest, and they didn't include me.
it's all apart of growing up and going separate ways.
But never did we lose one another.... thanks to our younger days.
Donnie was a Gem, he was one of a kind.... he was a great brother, I’m so glad he was mine!
EVERYONE LOVES AND MISSES YOU SO MUCH ALREADY... and now you can
“LET IT BE”!
