Emerson Westscott Stevens Sr.'s Obituary
Emerson Westcott Stevens, Sr, age 71, of Seaford, DE, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Born on May 28, 1951, in Keller, VA, he was the son of the late Forrest Hyden, Sr. and Addie (Voyles) Stevens.
A proud veteran, Mr. Stevens served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Stevens worked for American Original Claim Processing for several years before starting to work for the Virginia Department of Transportation. He made VDOT his career for over twenty years, following his retirement, Mr. Stevens worked part time at Watson -Yates Funeral Home and Crematorium, a job that he found most rewarding.
A man of strong faith, he was very active in his church. Mr. Stevens was an avid outdoorsman, who at every opportunity presented, enjoyed clamming, fishing, and riding his Harley. While indoors, he could often be found playing pool with his friends. Mr. Stevens truly treasured time spent with his family and friends above all. He was a loving and caring father, stepfather, partner, brother, and friend. Loved by many, Mr. Stevens will be forever missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Stevens, Buch Stevens, and Ray Stevens. He is survived by his longtime companion, Tina; his son, Emerson Wescott Stevens, Jr .of Nassawadox, VA; his stepdaughter, Lisa Simpson of Nassawadox, VA and his sister, Darlene Stevens of Newport News, VA; and 4 step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Victory Baptist Church, 16219 Sussex Hwy, Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will take place on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Belle Haven Cemetery, Lee St, Belle Haven, VA, 23306.
