Louis "Papa Lou" Victor Roy's Obituary
Louis “Papa Lou” Victor Roy, age 85 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 18, 1936, in Montgomery, AL, son of the late Victor and Lucille Roy.
Mr. Roy was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Army from 1959-1962. He built a lifelong career with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, retiring in 1993 as Vice President with FHLB of Topeka, KS, after 30 dedicated years. Mr. Roy was talented athlete in his younger years and especially enjoyed body surfing. He was a skilled chess player and an avid composer of editorials, tackling many issues affecting the local community. Mr. Roy was active in the Boys and Girls Club of Laurel and a member of the Maryland University Alumni and Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He loved telling stories and jokes and making those around him smile and laugh. Above all, Mr. Roy cherished time with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Roy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary (Gallagher) Roy of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his sons: Victor Roy of Annapolis, MD, David Roy of Poolesville, MD, and Joseph Roy of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his grandchildren: Tyler Roy, Ryan Roy, Cole Roy, Amanda Roy, and Ashley Roy; and his sisters: Vicky Galifaro, Sue McConville, and Evelyn Canning.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:30 AM, at St. Mary’s of Annapolis, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD. Burial will be held privately.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Yates Funeral Home, a Parsell Family Funeral Home, Seaford, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Mr. Roy’s memory to Season’s Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713.
